Antiparos is ideal for a family holiday.
To start with, the beaches are clean, safe and many are near enough to go to on foot. There are no motor vehicles allowed on the main street, which means your kids can run around playing while you’re strolling around or sitting at a café. The island is small, friendly and safe and soon you and your kids will be making friends at the beach, your hotel, restaurants…
Kids usually love the beach and there are so many things to do there! Swimming, snorkeling, making sand castles, playing with a ball or Frisbee, looking for shells, renting out a canoe or pedal boat… Depending on the beach, kids can play volleyball, go to a playground or swimming pool. Have lunch at a restaurant nearby or bring a picnic and spend the day at the beach!
There are two public playgrounds for younger kids. One is at the public school on the main street and one is at the Sifneikos beach. There are also two basketball courts behind the school.
If you are into sports, you can get scuba-diving, windsurf or kite-surf classes. Cycling is a very nice way to get to know parts of the island. At the rental shops you can also get children’s bike seats and helmets. In July and August there are swimming and sailing classes for kids at Ag. Spiridonas beach, organized by the Antiparos Nautical Club. You could also rent a small boat and take the kids for a trip to a deserted beach or go fishing.
If it’s culture you’re after, the local open-air cinema organises activities fro kids and often shows films suitable for children or even children’s films. Keep an eye on the posters daily put up. In the first 2 weeks of July, there are free activities in English for children at the local school. Do watch out for posters about theatre plays, activities of the Athens Children’s Museum and other institutions.
